Extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes could fund sorting technology upgrades through packaging levies. Most importantly, prioritizing designs for disassembly – like peelable liners or mono-material containers – would bridge the current chasm between packaging intention and recycling capability. The future of the ethical disposable kraft box depends not just on cleaner factories, but on rebuilding the broken ecosystems surrounding disposal.
