Policy intervention could accelerate progress. Standardizing labeling regulations would prevent misleading recyclability claims. Extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes could fund sorting technology upgrades through packaging levies. Most importantly, prioritizing designs for disassembly – like peelable liners or mono-material containers – would bridge the current chasm between packaging intention and recycling capability.
