U4GM what Holten Vaal Temple farming is in PoE2
Back when Fate of the Vaal landed in PoE2, a lot of players bounced off the mechanic hard, and honestly I was right there with them, even though I already knew places where people go to poe2 divine orb buy if they did not want to bother with it. It felt fine while levelling, but once I moved into maps the whole thing turned into a slog with almost no payoff for the time invested. I was close to dropping the league completely until clips started popping up from Fubgun and a few other no-lifers showing that Holten in Act 6 was secretly the jackpot. Suddenly we were not talking about a couple of scraps per map any more, we were talking about currency rates that can actually carry a whole league start.
Setting Up The Holten Loop
The core of the strategy is simple on paper, but you can easily mess it up if you rush. You make a fresh character, usually some zoomy Ranger or anything that can move fast and one-shot low level packs, and you rush the campaign straight to the Act 6 interlude. The key detail people miss: you must keep your level under 74. As long as you do that, the Vaal pack in Holten keeps spawning basically next to the waypoint, run after run. You hop in, delete the pack, scoop the crystals, then head to the temple and intentionally die to bleed off experience so you do not level out of the sweet spot. It sounds dumb on paper, but once you see a full temple generated in a couple of minutes, it starts to make sense.
Building A Proper Snake
Farming crystals is only the warm-up; the real money comes from how you build each temple. If you just slam random rooms, you are wasting time and burning your own patience. What you want instead is a long continuous "Snake" starting right from the entrance, one room feeding the next so you do not have to backtrack. You focus Spymaster rooms first to grab medallions and lock in your layout before RNG ruins it, then you line up Garrisons and Armories to stack monster effectiveness as high as you can push it. Once that number climbs past 1000 percent, the whole temple turns into a fireworks show of loot, with raw Divines, Exalts and usable ilvl 84 bases bouncing all over the floor.
Exploit Or Just Good Min-Max
A lot of the community is arguing about whether this counts as an exploit or just clever grinding. The way it feels in play is closer to old quarry farming, but with way higher stakes and way more pressure because you know GGG is probably going to fix it once the holiday break ends. While the window is open, though, the whole economy warps around it, crystal prices tank, and the value of each Divine gets weird. If you enjoy squeezing every edge out of a league, this is exactly the kind of busted interaction you live for, even if you know it might vanish overnight after a hotfix.
For Players Who Do Not Want The Grind
Not everyone wants to spend an evening suiciding to Atziri and juggling character levels just to stay under 74, and that is fair. Some players just want to log in, blast maps on their main, and still keep up with the shifting market without learning a full temple puzzle on the side. If you are in that camp, you can skip the Holten loop entirely and lean on outside options like u4gm when you want to top up your currency and keep playing at your own pace.
