Hugh Laurie Joins Forces with Amy Poehler in New Archaeological Comedy Series

British actor Hugh Laurie has been cast as the male lead alongside Amy Poehler in Peacock's upcoming comedy series "Dig." The show marks a reunion between Poehler and Mike Schur, who previously collaborated on the hit series "Parks and Recreation."

"Dig," adapted from Kate Myers' bestselling novel "Excavation," follows four women at an archaeological site in Greece, with Poehler playing one of these characters. The storyline centers on their discovery of a buried secret that could alter historical records, thrusting them into a dangerous international conspiracy.

Laurie will portray Neville, a British archaeology professor dedicated to preserving the traditions of his beloved field. His character sees himself as a mentor figure to the dig site team.

The creative team includes Schur and Poehler as co-writers of the pilot, with J. Philbin of "Only Murders in the Building" fame also contributing to the writing. Executive producers include Morgan Sackett, Dean Holland, Dave Becky, David Miner, Sharon Jackson, Kate Arend, and Jordan Grief. Myers serves as co-executive producer.

Production is set to begin soon under Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Throughout his versatile career, Laurie has moved effortlessly between dramatic and comedic roles. His notable performances include the medical drama "House," thrillers like "The Night Manager" and "Chance," and comedies such as "Jeeves and Wooster," "A Bit of Fry and Laurie," "Veep," and "Avenue 5."

His impressive list of accolades includes 10 Emmy nominations, three Golden Globe wins, and two SAG Awards.

Laurie's recent projects include Apple TV+'s thriller "The Wanted Man" and the upcoming third season of "Tehran." He also lends his voice to Albus Dumbledore in Audible's Harry Potter audiobook series.
