When you run into Tavakai, the Tukohama Chieftain, the first thing you’ll notice is how much of a pain he can be if you’re not ready. He’s huge, throws out fire everywhere, and is obsessed with his totems. The trick here is not charging head-first at him, but learning how he moves and fights.

His patterns are predictable once you’ve seen them a few times, and keeping mobile is the real key. Don’t get greedy — your survival comes first. You’ll thank yourself later, especially when you’ve grabbed some extra PoE 2 Currency for upgrades before stepping into this fight.

Early on, Tavakai’s got three main moves you need to keep an eye on. His basic melee swing? Slow, telegraphed — easy to dodge. His leap slam? That’s the killer. The moment you see him launch up, you’d better be moving because that hit hurts, and the burning patch it leaves will melt your health bar. Then there’s his fire breath. Watch for him pulling his head back, and get to his rear side fast to avoid the cone. Around all this, he’s dropping small Ancestral Totems almost constantly. These aren’t harmless — their fire projectiles stack up fast. If you ignore them, they’ll flood the screen and make dodging everything else nearly impossible.

Once he’s down to roughly half health, brace yourself — things get hectic. The big dormant totems placed around the arena power up, sending out rotating beams or spreading ugly ground effects that eat away at your safe space. His leap slam speeds up, covers a wider area, and leaves bigger burning zones. You’ll find yourself weaving between hazards while still dodging his usual swings and breath. It’s the same fight as before, just cranked up to eleven, so your timing and positioning matter much more now.

To deal with him, keep moving. A Quicksilver Flask helps you keep pace, and a movement skill like Flame Dash, Frostblink, or Leap Slam is pretty much mandatory. Whenever those little totems appear, stop what you’re doing and destroy them. Seriously, they’re probably the biggest threat in the whole encounter because they turn an already busy fight into chaos.

And yeah, cap your fire resist to the usual 75% — it won’t save you from bad positioning, but it gives you more room to recover from slip-ups. Stay calm, keep your eyes on both him and the arena hazards, and pick your moments to strike. Winning’s all about control — your own movement and your focus. Do that right, and you’ll have him down while you’re already thinking about your next poe2 currency buy.
