PoE 3.27 Controversy: Scarab Drop Rate Bug, Low Ground Loot & Player Backlash Explained

It's been a while since the release of PoE 3.27, and based on past PoE releases, this should be a time of excitement for the entire community. However, in the past two weeks, the outcry against PoE 3.27 has grown louder, with players' disappointment and anger steadily accumulating. The main reasons are concentrated in the following areas:

Image Compared to previous PoE seasons, the number of Ground Loots in PoE 3.27 is far too small. Many players have reported that even with the map modifier enabled, Ground Loots are scarce. The reduced efficiency of map farming has led to players spending less time and effort in the game, causing dissatisfaction and doubts about the core loop. Daily active users have also decreased significantly. PoE players on various social media platforms are discussing this issue: the drop rate of Scarabs from rare and legendary monsters is lower than that of Barrels!! This is clearly a bug, a very absurd problem. Ironically, just before the release of PoE, I wrote an article praising Scarabs. The reduced drop rate has caused a series of problems, preventing players from obtaining PoE 3.27 Currency while exploring the map. Previously, players could acquire large amounts of PoE 3.27 Currency through Scarabs doubling and map trading, but these methods are now completely ineffective. This has led to severe economic strain for almost all players, even impacting the entire trading market. Of course, with so many problems, the official team couldn't ignore it. Recently, based on player feedback, they released patch 3.27.0c, increasing the Scarabs drop rate. Personal opinion: In my view, if the fundamental issue of Ground Loot doesn't receive the official attention, it will not only damage player trust but, more seriously, lead to players spending less time and effort on the game. In the long run, this will only push players to similar games. It may also affect player participation in future new mechanics (such as Breach, Graft, Bloodline, etc.).

If they want to retain existing players and attract new ones, they must make more substantial changes to the loot system and long-term economic cycle.
