When players talk about Path of Exile 1 movement, the same request keeps coming back: why not add WASD as an option, the way POE 2 does, while still keeping the old click-to-move feel for people who want it? A lot of the pressure comes from players who split time between both games and get used to one hand on the keyboard, one on the mouse, then jump back into POE1 and suddenly feel like they're fighting their own muscle memory for POE currency farming runs.

The split in opinion is pretty clear. Some players say WASD would make the game easier on the hands, cleaner for aiming, and less awkward when you need to move and cast at the same time. Others push back hard. They like the old setup. They don't want POE1 drifting toward a different identity just because POE2 made another control style feel normal. You can see it in the tone of the replies: one group wants comfort, the other wants the game left alone.

For others, it just feels like extra noise.

Most of the people asking for POE1 WASD are not asking for a full POE2 copy. They usually say they want movement only, not dodge roll, not a whole combat rewrite, just a way to keep moving while the mouse stays freer for targeting and skill use. That is why the request feels more like a comfort upgrade than a design revolt. If you have ever tried swapping between the two games in one night, you know the awkward part. It is not that one scheme is broken. It is that the two schemes do not talk to each other very well.

At the same time, the hesitation makes sense too. Plenty of players still prefer the old hands-on-the-mouse style, and they do not want POE1 pushed toward a control feel that reminds them of shooters or console ports. That is really the heart of it. The game's pace, its combat flow, even the way people think about movement skills, all sit on top of that original input model. If GGG ever does add cheap POE currency friendly quality-of-life changes around movement, they'd need to keep both camps in mind, because POE1 players are not all asking for the same thing, and they rarely have been.
