Prerequisites: What You Need Before You Go

Before you can set foot in the Catacombs of Kourend, you must first unlock access to the kingdom of Great Kourend itself. Fortunately, this process is straightforward and accessible to most players, even those with low combat levels.

The key prerequisite is starting the "Client of Kourend" quest. However, you'll need to complete a short beginner quest first: "X Marks the Spot." This quest takes just 10–15 minutes to finish and unlocks travel to Port Sarim's docks, where you can sail to Kourend. To start "X Marks the Spot," speak to Veos, who is located near the Lumbridge Castle courtyard.

Once you've finished "X Marks the Spot," talk to Veos again to begin "Client of Kourend." Crucially, you don't need to complete this quest-simply starting it unlocks access to Great Kourend. This means you can skip the bulk of the quest and head straight to the catacombs if you're in a hurry.

While there are no strict combat requirements to enter the Catacombs, it's recommended to have a combat level of 50 or higher. The catacombs are home to stronger versions of common slayer monsters, so having decent gear and stats will make your trip safer and more efficient.

Step 1: Travel to Great Kourend

Once you've unlocked access to Great Kourend, the next step is to travel there. There are several methods to reach the kingdom, ranging from cheap and accessible to fast and convenient.

The most basic method is sailing from Port Sarim. After completing "X Marks the Spot," head to Port Sarim's docks and speak to Veos. He will offer to sail you to Great Kourend for a small fee of 10 coins. The journey takes a few minutes, but it's a reliable option for new players who don't have access to teleportation methods.

For faster travel, use the "Teleport to Kourend" spell. This spell requires finding and reading the book "Transportation Incantations," which can be obtained from various sources, including the Arceuus Library in Great Kourend. Once you have the book, you can cast the spell to teleport directly to the center of Great Kourend, right near the main entrance to the Catacombs.

Another fast option is using Xeric's Talisman. To get this item, you need to complete the Architectural Alliance miniquest. Once you have the talisman, use its "Xeric's Heart" function to teleport directly outside the statue of King Rada I-the location of the Catacombs' main entrance. This is the quickest way to reach the catacombs once you've unlocked it.

If you have a player-owned house, you can also attune a house portal to Great Kourend. This allows you to teleport to your house and then use the portal to reach Kourend instantly, making it a convenient option for players who spend time training or preparing in their house.

Step 2: Locate the Catacombs Entrances

The Catacombs of Kourend have one main entrance and four additional entrances scattered around the kingdom. The main entrance is the easiest to find and is the best starting point for most players.

The main entrance is located in the center of Great Kourend, directly behind the statue of King Rada I. To enter, simply investigate the statue-this will open a hidden passage leading down to the catacombs. This entrance is accessible to all players who have started "Client of Kourend."

The four secondary entrances are unlocked by climbing up ropes from inside the catacombs. Each entrance leads to a different part of Great Kourend, making them useful for quick access to specific areas of the dungeon:

Demon's Run: Located in the north-east corner of the catacombs (near the greater demons), this entrance leads to a hole west of the Arceuus Essence Mine. It can be quickly accessed via the fairy ring CIS (if unlocked).

Dragon's Den: Found in the north-west corner (near the brutal black dragons), this entrance leads to a hole north of the Deeper Lode Pub in the Lovakengj House.

Reeking Cove: Situated in the southern area (near the deviant spectres), this entrance leads to a hole north-west of the Shayzien House Bank. It can be reached quickly via the fairy ring DJR (if unlocked).

The Shallows: Located in the south-east corner (near the king sand crabs), this entrance leads to a hole next to the buy OSRS gold Hosidius House Bank, near the poll booth.
