In the fourth and last season, which premiered on August 14, we initiated a shadowing program, enabling aspiring black female directors to observe the production process closely. Jéssica Queiroz, a recent Instituto Criar graduate, benefited immensely from shadowing three directors over four months; she gained insights into special effects, post-production, and casting as she transitioned from editing to directing.

Recruiting talent from non-traditional routes proved both rewarding and enlightening for our team. The diverse backgrounds of our trainees enriched my perspective as both a producer and an artist, allowing me to learn just as much from them as they did from our experiences on set.

It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness the progress of participants like Jéssica, who after her time on 3%, directed Fim de Comédia for Cinebrasil TV and received multiple offers to helm other projects. She noted that “shadowing granted me access to opportunities in a closed market”—showing how vital these initiatives are for fostering emerging talent.
