Step 1: Meet Joe at Mossmellow Retreat

Fast travel or head on foot to Mossmellow Retreat, a quiet hideout located within the Carcadia District. You'll find Joe inside a small wooden house - a calmer environment compared to the chaos you're used to in the Dominion.

Speak with Joe to begin the quest. He'll mention that Sue is recovering from her "ripped bolt" injury, inflicted by Vito during the previous mission. Joe seems worried but insists she's tougher than she looks. He'll ask you to go upstairs to check on her.

When you head upstairs, you'll find the room empty - Sue isn't there. Return downstairs and talk to Joe again to continue.

Step 2: Find Sue

Joe explains that Sue has been nostalgic lately, missing her sister and craving gumbo from a local spot called Craw Daddies. He decides to check on her sister while you go investigate the restaurant to see if Sue went there.

Leave the retreat and follow the path to the left of the building. You'll soon come across Craw Daddies, a once-lively gumbo joint now crawling with Order patrols. These soldiers are already searching for Sue - referred to by them as the "Ordonite thief."

Step 3: Clear Out Craw Daddies

Prepare for combat as soon as you approach the restaurant. The Order patrols are heavily armed, with a mix of ranged units and a mini-boss leading the group. Use the nearby cover to your advantage, especially the broken neon Craw Daddies sign and outdoor tables.

Once all enemies are defeated, your ECHO-4 device will update automatically. Contact Joe to give him the news. He'll conclude that Sue probably didn't make it to the restaurant and instead might have gone to their old ship, a familiar place tied to their past.

Step 4: Travel to Sue's Ship

Open your map and mark the location Joe mentions. The ship is located farther south, near the Witness Construction Program area - right on the edge of the Carcadia District.

If you've played through the earlier Price of Freedom missions, you'll recognize this ship as the same one where you first met Joe and Sue.

Travel there by foot or use fast travel points to get as close as possible, then follow your waypoint marker.

Step 5: Speak with Sue

As you arrive, you'll spot Sue standing near her garden beside the ship. She seems calmer than before, though still in visible pain. Approach and talk to her.

Sue explains that she finds peace tending to her plants - it's the only thing that helps her heal, both physically and mentally. You'll discuss her decision to stay at the ship, and after a short exchange, she'll ask for your help in retrieving gardening tools scattered nearby.

There are three tools in total to collect: a shovel, a scythe, and a pitchfork.

Step 6: Collect Gardening Tools

Garden Tool #1 – Shovel

Head inside the ship and look near the main entrance. You'll find a synth corpse leaning against a wall - search it to retrieve the shovel buried in its chest compartment.

Garden Tool #2 – Scythe

Exit the ship and move toward the right-hand side of the area. You'll find another synth corpse partially buried under scrap metal and trash. Loot it to collect the scythe tool.

Garden Tool #3 – Pitchfork

This one is slightly hidden. Walk to the ramp on the side of the ship and use it to jump onto an elevated platform supported by a central pillar. Another synth corpse rests up there - search it to find the pitchfork, completing your tool collection.

Step 7: Defend Joe and Sue

As soon as you collect the final tool, your ECHO-4 will warn you of incoming hostiles. A wave of Order troops will ambush the area, attempting to eliminate Joe and Sue for good.

Use the terrain to cheap Borderlands 4 Boost your advantage. The garden area offers natural choke points, making grenades and area-of-effect abilities highly effective. If you're using Elemental Borderlands 4 Weapons, corrosive or shock types work best against the Order's armored units.
