A Simple Guide to Watering Plants While You Are Away

Leaving home for a vacation can create a problem for plant owners. While people may only be away for a few days or weeks, plants still need access to water. Without proper preparation, potted plants can quickly become dry, especially when temperatures are high.

One simple solution is to prepare a watering system before leaving. Self-watering spikes and globes can gradually release water into the soil, helping plants receive moisture over time.

The amount of water required depends on several factors. Plant type, container size, soil condition, temperature, and sunlight can all influence how quickly the soil dries.

It is also important to test a watering system before going away. A system that releases water too quickly may cause overwatering, while one that releases too slowly may not provide enough moisture.

For shorter trips, preparing the soil and watering plants thoroughly before leaving may sometimes be enough. For longer trips, however, a gradual watering solution can provide additional support.
