Building an Immortal Whirlwind Barbarian isn't just about copying a skill tree and hoping the spin carries you. It won't. The build starts to feel ridiculous only when the gear is cleaned up, the right affixes are pushed, and Masterworking stops landing on throwaway stats. If you're already spending time farming, trading, or sorting through D4 Gold for upgrades, make those upgrades count. The biggest thing to watch is Critical Strike Chance. With Heir of Perdition, that's the stat you want Masterwork hits on. Movement Speed is fine, sure, but Lucky Hit Chance doesn't do much for this version of Whirlwind. Don't let a shiny roll distract you from what actually makes the build kill faster.

Gloves are where many players lose damage

Gohr's Devastating Grips can look good at first glance, then sit there half-finished for ages. That's a common mistake. These gloves need proper Masterworking, and the best target is Critical Strike Chance. If that stat gets boosted, the whole build feels sharper. Tempering matters too. Overpower damage on the gloves gives you a much better burst window, especially when packs are stacked tight and Whirlwind is already rolling. Also, check the unique power roll. A weak roll on Gohr's isn't something to ignore just because the item name is correct. If the percentage is low, try to replace or reroll it when possible. A better roll is one of those upgrades you notice straight away, not just on a spreadsheet.

Defence still needs smart stat choices

The chest, pants, and boots are where the build becomes stable instead of merely flashy. A Booming Voice chest can be excellent, but Fury Generation is the part you don't want to skip. Without enough Fury coming back in, Whirlwind starts to feel awkward, and Selig can't do its job as comfortably. Cold Resistance or another single resistance can work while you're gearing, but All Elemental Resistances is the cleaner endgame answer. For pants and boots, don't cling to low item power pieces. An 850 item with no Greater Affix is usually just a placeholder. Boots in particular should be upgraded aggressively. Greater Affix Movement Speed makes dungeons smoother, helps with positioning, and keeps the build from feeling heavy.

Weapons should support the same plan

Your weapons aren't just stat sticks. They're the core of the damage engine. A strong two-handed mace with Limitless Rage, Ramaladni's Magnum Opus, and the right slashing or bludgeoning setup can push Whirlwind much harder than a mixed bag of random high item power drops. Still, don't get lazy with the affixes. Critical Strike Chance needs to be checked across the setup wherever it can appear, and weak rolls should be treated as a problem, not "good enough for now." Damage while Berserking, Strength, and relevant weapon damage rolls all help, but crit consistency is what makes the build feel smooth. When crit is low, the Barbarian spins a lot and somehow still feels flat.

Jewelry finishes the immortal feel

The Ring of Starless Skies is a natural fit because it helps with resource flow and cooldown comfort, but the best versions lean into crit-based value rather than unnecessary Lucky Hit. Melted Heart of Selig is the real defensive anchor, since it turns resource into a second life bar. Even so, it needs finishing work. Add sockets with prisms, place the right gems or seasonal bonuses, and don't leave easy power untouched. Players often chase a new weapon while their amulet is missing basic upgrades, which is backwards. If you're comparing upgrades or saving cheap D4 Gold for one major purchase, prioritise the pieces that improve Fury sustain, crit reliability, and Selig's protection together. That's when Whirlwind stops feeling risky and starts feeling properly immortal.
