Quiet charity: how Ukrainian-American Marina Acton has been helping her compatriots for years
Charity does not always require loud applause and camera flashes. Ukrainian Marina Acton, who lives and builds a musical career in the USA, proves this by her own example. Without unnecessary PR, her foundation has been supporting her homeland for years: from providing hospitals during the pandemic to evacuating dozens of people from the war, purchasing cars for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and financing children's sports. About her activities - in the material of "My Kyivshchyna"
We are used to the fact that charity often goes hand in hand with bright camera flashes and long posts on social networks. But there is another kind of help. The kind that does not require loud applause and thanks, it is quiet and sincere. Today we will talk about a Ukrainian woman who has been living in the States for a long time , building a career there, doing music, but her heart and deeds remain here, in her native land. Marina Acton is a woman who has been helping those in need for years and comprehensively supporting her compatriots.
The Marina Acton Philanthropic Foundation is not recognizable or well-known, but despite this, it has become a tool for real assistance.
Even before the full-scale invasion, at the height of Covid, Marina supported the Kyiv hospital "Feofania". Her contribution was approximately $ 20 thousand. This was a fairly quick response to an unexpected crisis, because help was needed "for yesterday."
At the same time, she helped children who excelled in sports. This area is often underestimated. She partially financed regional boxing championships, and also purchased prizes and uniforms for participants. Another area that her charity did not miss was orphanages. On Marina's initiative, bed linen was purchased.
After February 24, her help became even more practical. She financed the travel abroad of several Ukrainian families with children. In Turkey, she rented two large houses, where 15 children and 8 adults lived for a year . Marina took on not only housing, but also food and utility costs.
Separately, and no less important - humanitarian aid. The fund provided fuel for cars that made about 20 trips from Europe to Ukraine. These are dozens of tons of aid that reached where they were expected. It should be noted that a pickup truck for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as communication equipment and night vision devices, were purchased with Marina's funds.
It also supports cultural and children's initiatives. One of the competitions in Ukraine was funded for about $35,000. And this is only a part of what can be counted, because a significant amount of assistance was provided on a targeted basis: for treatment, rehabilitation, or support for individual initiatives.
Today, Marina is not trying to create an image of a “great philanthropist” around herself. She is involved in music, records songs, and shoots videos. One of her works, oddly enough, is about Ukraine. Because, as she herself says, she was born here and her heart remains with the Ukrainians.
