U4GM MLB The Show 26 Save Situations Made Easy

Trying to earn saves in MLB The Show 26 can make you feel like you've missed a hidden menu somewhere. You bring in a reliever, shut the door, win the game, and still get no credit. It's annoying, especially when you're working through programs, building your bullpen, or checking prices for MLB The Show 26 stubs for sale while trying to knock out missions at the same time. The problem usually isn't your pitching. It's the save rule itself, which is picky in a way the game doesn't always explain clearly.

The clean three-run setup

The easiest save chance is still the normal one. Go into the last inning with a lead of one, two, or three runs. Then bring in a relief pitcher and let him finish the game. In a full nine-inning match, that means the 9th. In shorter Diamond Dynasty games, it's usually the 3rd. Don't overthink it. If your reliever enters with that small lead and records the last out, he should get the save as long as he doesn't give the lead away. The funny bit is that players often ruin this by hitting too well. You're up 3-1, you tack on two more runs, and suddenly the save chance is gone. Nice for the win, bad for the mission.

When a big lead can still work

There is another route, but it's messier. A save can still happen with a larger lead if the tying run is close enough to matter when the pitcher enters. Think of it like this: if you're ahead by four and the bases are loaded, the batter at the plate represents real danger because one swing could tie it. Bring in your reliever there, finish the game, and the save can count. It feels strange because you may be winning comfortably on the scoreboard, yet the situation is technically tight. This is useful when you've already scored too many runs and don't want to restart just to chase one stat.

The three-inning trick

There's also the long save, and it's one of the best tools against the CPU. If a reliever pitches the final three innings of a game, the score doesn't matter. You could be up by two runs or twelve. As long as that pitcher stays in and finishes those three full innings, he can be awarded the save. This works especially well in nine-inning games where you're already cruising. Instead of trying to keep the score close, just pick a reliever you trust, bring him in for the 7th, and let him ride it out. It's not flashy, but it saves time.

Small mistakes that cost the stat

The game won't hand out a win and a save to the same pitcher, so watch who's the pitcher of record when your team takes the lead. If your reliever enters early and your offence grabs the lead while he's in line for the decision, he's probably getting the win instead. Also, don't pull your closer with two outs just because you want another arm involved. The pitcher who records the final out is the one who matters. If you're grinding missions, the fastest way to get stubs in MLB The Show 26 won't help much if you keep missing saves through substitutions, so keep the right man on the mound until the job is done.
